Early Years

Caleb and Morgan Weinberg made the pilgrimage from New England to Crested Butte, Colorado in the mid 1990’s in search of higher peaks and deeper snow. In the winter of 2010, inspired by the DIY ski building movement, the brothers put their woodworking skills to use crafting eight pairs of skis in Morgan’s garage.

Feedback from friends and Crested Butte’s many ski bums helped the brothers to create ever better skis each year. Before long, Romp Skis moved into a larger factory. After 12 years, Romp Skis had grown into the brand we all know and love, an Elk Mountains staple.

Current Era

During the 2023-24 season, Morgan Weinberg sought a new, outside partner to further develop the brand. Long-time Romp Skis customer and skier Chase Gardaphe purchased Romp Skis in the spring of 2024.

Chase has deep roots in the Gunnison Valley. In his 20s, Chase “ski bummed” in Crested Butte, working in ski rental and tuning shops and skiing as much as possible. Since then Chase, his wife Annabelle and their two children frequently visited Crested Butte from their home in Midland, Texas. Chase brings a fresh perspective to the Romp Skis’ team offering a wide variety of knowledge in sales, marketing and community outreach, complementing the
team’s production experience and skill.

New management will bring refreshing change to the company without changing the Romp’s mission and core values. Romp Skis will forever be a for-skiers, by-skiers brand. Looking ahead, Romp will continue to create handcrafted products with creative designs for skiers and riders chasing the emotionally energized state of gliding through powder.
