Early Years
Caleb and Morgan Weinberg made the pilgrimage from New England to Crested Butte, Colorado in the mid 1990’s in search of higher peaks and deeper snow. In the winter of 2010, inspired by the DIY ski building movement, the brothers put their woodworking skills to use crafting eight pairs of skis in Morgan’s garage.
Feedback from friends and Crested Butte’s many ski bums helped the brothers to create ever better skis each year. Before long, Romp Skis moved into a larger factory. After 12 years, Romp Skis had grown into the brand we all know and love, an Elk Mountains staple.
Current Era
During the 2023–24 season, founder Morgan Weinberg sought a new partner to help grow the brand. In spring 2024, long-time Romp Skis customer and skier Chase Gardaphe purchased Romp Skis. Chase has deep roots in the Gunnison Valley, having spent his 20s ski bumming in Crested Butte while working in ski rental and tuning shops. He, his wife Annabelle, and their two children continue to visit Crested Butte from their home in Midland, Texas.
Chase brings fresh perspective and experience in sales, marketing, and community outreach, complementing Romp’s skilled production team. While management has evolved, Romp’s mission remains unchanged: a for-skiers, by-skiers brand dedicated to crafting creative, handcrafted products for those chasing the joy of gliding through powder.
